Happy Friday! How was your week?
Now, I know what you're thinking. Why am I posting on Friday? Well, because I'm taking a surprise trip to Seattle this weekend! Of course, I will take lots of pictures and post them next week.
This week, I decided to go to Newport, since I have no more friends in Portland, and I have some in Newport. I went to visit a dear friend, hand over a beautiful shawl, and see three museums of mystical wonder that I had heard a lot about from my fellow teacher friends.
As promised, a pic of the shawl, finished, blocked, and draping beautifully over the wooded chair on our front porch, and the metal one on our concrete patio.

Off to Newport. I saw the Ocean undersea garden.
and my impression was.... "eh, it wasn't all that." I got a good picture of this... thing.... Catfish? shark?

As well as these lovely sea anemones.
and this really cool.... thing... Doesn't that look like it's knit to you? Or am I just going crazy? (great, now I want to knit it....)
I walked for a bit up and down the bayfront in Newport, and took fabulous pictures of the violinist there. He asked me to send some pics his way for publicity, so I promised I would, and he gave me his card. I got some good views of the bridge and town in there, too! (
His name is Adren, the Celtic violinist. Check out his site, listen to his music, support him if you like. He was wonderfully gifted, (and super handsome!) and I was once again ashamed that I had no cash on me to speak of.

After that, I got a quick bite of a biscuit and headed into the wax museum. Where, I was greeted with calming, pleasing scenes like this:
and this:
or even this:
Lest you be fooled into thinking that this "wasn't that bad," I will further add that this entire place was shrouded in darkness. Like, Haunted-house-type darkness. oooo. thrilling. I came out sweating. I still don't know if it was the heat or my nerves.
The second one, Ripley's believe it or Not, was more interesting, as they had TONS of lit-up posters about strange occurances.
I believe every single thing that the museum claims happened. except maybe the Bigfoot in the front.
Shrouded in freaky darkness and sweating, part II, attack of the mummy. I could not get a good picture of the mummy, but I got the sarchophogas, and the mummy would pop out and tell you "beware!" and other nonsense. But since I have the courage of a five-year-old child during these things, I was too freaked to really stay and get a good pic. As you notice, everything was using the flash. which was rather difficult. (that's putting it mildly.... I was inwardly swearing)
I had no idea, for the record, that the Ripley's believe it or Not and the Wax Museum would be so..... creepypastatastic. But, I did it. And now that it's over, I never want to do it again. Much like Rimsky's Bathroom.
Now on to happier things. After I got home I got back to work on my Swallowtail Shawl. I think I've discovered a new addiction: Shawls. I love the shawl, and I promise to give you more pics next week.
I also worked on Becca's socks, as you can see, and watched Song of the Sea.

As expected from the creators of Secret of Kells, the movie is stunningly beautiful and the music is magical.(I cried.) Check out both movies, if you love art that is ornate, beautiful, moving, and magical. Have a wonderful week!
